Pen Pals With Typewriters

My typewriters (19)

Created on: 25 Nov 2021
These are the beauties in my home. One has been given away, so current total is 17.
  • My first typewriter — Remington Monarch.
  • Olympia SM4 with Bulletin (10 cpi) typeface.
  • This is a Sears Medalist 12, a rebranded Smith-Corona electric typewriter but with more features. I also have the Mathematics set of interchangeable keys for this typewriter.
  • Alpine Blue Smith-Corona Super, thus far the only typewriter in my collection that was made in Canada.
  • I really enjoy the feel of the keys when typing on this Torpedo 30; it makes me want one of the 18b models. This one has the Esquire typeface, with 10 cpi.
  • Hermes 3000, seafoam with green keys.
  • My first (and currently only) Voss has an Italic typeface, 10 cpi.
  • An early production Olivetti Lettera 22 (notice the round keys and the Olivetti branding on the back plate). This typewriter has the Lettera Imperial typeface, 12 cpi.
  • A favourite typer: Gossen Tippa, with its hardshell cover and the leather briefcase.
  • No longer in my home: Another Adler Contessa deluxe, beige with a regular Pica typeface. I donated this one.
  • Mint coloured Adler Contessa deluxe. This one has a Cubic typeface, 11 cpi.
  • Royal Aristocrat, purchased only for the sake of its Spencerian Script typeface (12 cpi), it’s a much nicer typer than I expected.
  • My second typewriter, purchased 3 years after the Monarch, started my collecting hobby. Olympia Traveller with Script typeface (11 cpi). My lightest touch manual, very different feel to the SM4.
  • My first antique shop find - $75 Royal QDL, 1953, with carriage speed control. This is typewriter # 14 in my collection and my second Made in Canada. This one has an Elite typeface.
  • A Torpedo for the U.K. market, 1959 Bluebird 18b. Made in Western Germany. This one is an Elite typeface, 12 cpi. Saw it on Instagram before I was at liberty to purchase, luckily it waited for me!
  • 1969 Facit TP2 with Elite Imperial typeface. Left knob has had a repair prior to my ownership, but the repair seems solid, it works well. The case is nice & still has key, but I never lock my cases.
  • Maritza (authorized Princess clone), made in Bulgaria; with Reiner Consilium typeface. QWERTY with Spanish characters. Speculative, unconfirmed date 1971. Total collection: 16 typewriters.
  • A Sharoun Conqueror (Patria clone), made by Oliver Typewriter Manufacturing Co. Ltd., in Croydon, England.
  • I.J. Sharoun Typewriter Co. advertisement from a Latvian newspaper. Sometimes a typewriter dealer would buy a batch of machines from a manufacturer and have the dealer’s name put on as branding.
